15th Reunion of the 184th New York Volunteer Infantry (NYVI) Regiment

Description

For your consideration is a ribbon worn by a member of the 184th New York Volunteer Infantry (NYVI) Regiment to the Fifteenth Annual Reunion of the 184th, which took place in Fulton, Oswego County, New York, on June 10, 1903.
The 184th NYVI was recruited in the county of Oswego and mustered into service at Elmira on September 12-16, 1864, for one year. The regiment saw action, among other places, at the Battle of Cedar Creek in October, in which the boys fought valiantly, suffering forty-five casualties in dead and wounded. The regiment also was ordered to garrison duty at various places in Virginia—such as Bermuda Hundred, Harrison’s Landing, and Fort Pocahontas.
Overall, this ribbon is in nice condition. It retains its top bar which depicts the corps badge of the VI Corps—the Corps in which the 184th was assigned—flanked by the years 1864 and 1903.
The image depicted on the ribbon itself is the chaplain of the Reverend Jacob Post.
The reverse of the ribbon still retains the original manufacturer’s label from The Whitehead & Hoag Company Out of Newark, New Jersey. Whitehead & Hoag is a well-known maker of post-Civil War badges, ribbons, and other related memorabilia.
