GAU TIBET
A beautiful traditional round Tibetan gau or prayer box silver plated in hammered copper with the mantra of Avalokiteshwara, "Om mani padme hum". The back comes off & inside are prayer flags,& a clay statue of the the Green Tara behind a glass window. Tibetan pilgrims carry these as a portable shrine, & it comes nicely all cozied up in a silk case. It measures 5" in diameter & 1 1/2" broad, & are often to be seen advertised as very old by dealers from China, very nice work, but they are made in Patan, Nepal for the Tibetan market & are even sold at the Jokhang in Lhasa. ----
